THE JOKE IS ON ME! | NO. 13
I QUIT…NO REALLY, I QUIT. SERIOUSLY!
XXX (naughty you, no! Three strikes to learn my lesson!
Live and learn, am I right? It is absolutely comical as I remember having the courage to go in for a face to face with New Boss #2 the immediately go back to my desk and begin packing up my personal items.

So, what went wacky in this scenario? I wasn’t quite sure how to quit/resign, he wasn’t quite sure of how to read me as he was knee deep in navigating his new position of our large department and things just progressed, I…we remained unclear of my —-.
The scene in that corner office was hilarious as the Manager was under the impression, he was interviewing me, I was armed with both great suggestions to help and emboldened with my “I’m out of here” mindset.
There were many factors for my making the decision to leave the company, something that was key for me (besides the normal corporate stuff like red tape, office politics…blah, blah, blah) was the way the company labeled individuals into their job levels then Management vs. Non-Management. There was always a cloud of tension over the cubicles simply because of the levels then us vs. them mentality. So, once I realized I was done, had “resigned” …I was extra tuned in while sitting in that final conference room to be “interviewed”.
Ah, but I was moving towards an industry where I would be an Independent Contractor, no one can ever interview me again,
I am an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR, I am my own boss now!

Now that I have many more years in the books, countless experiences and adventures to draw on with a matured,
calmer mindset I confidently share…
Today I know that my Mother was right, yes, I have reached that point in my life where I know that my Mother was right!
“Every day is an interview”
Yes indeed, I know that my immature resistance to be placed in a box, labeled then analyzed, critiqued and dare I say questioned about my experience (or rather inexperience) …well, that’s just life! Every day is an interview.
We don’t always know who we will meet, so be ready: Do you wake up and get Dressed, Pressed & Polished or are you still sporting your pandemic wardrobe?
Have you ever run into a client while hustling through Home Depot in your less than appealing landscaping attire, hid two isles over, mortified? Sure, there is this thing called real life, however, thinking ahead can be very helpful!
How about your Happy Hours, business dinners or conferences or events-are you following proper etiquette or just letting it all go…if the later, we need to talk!
I have been there, done that and can share possible outcomes to help you avoid the fallout!
The point on this THE JOKE IS ON ME! | NO. 13 is that proper communication is critical at every level, in each conversation (face to face and especially in the tech zone), be brave, know your worth, speak up but make sure that your message is clear, unambiguous and keep all of your bridges in tact-one never knows if you might need or want to cross them in the future!
