SILHOUETTE OF SUCCESS | SORORITY SESSION
In this Sorority Session:
What’s for dinner?
Let’s review the Conversation Highlights:

Grandma’s Thanksgiving dinner, family holiday meals, parties, events, soirees, weddings, funerals, showers, graduations…celebrations of every segment or visiting a friend who is always the “Hostess with the Mostest” (probably you!). Whether you are the party goer or the party thrower…we can all appreciate the joys of a festive celebration! I get a kick out of letting our podcasts go in a natural direction from a select foundational questions. The Silhouettes’ stories are inherently distinctive, remarkable and truly inspirational. Throughout this journey with the Silhouettes, I have been able to gleam enlightenment, renewed excitement and momentum from these ladies!
Irene’s light was aglow, brilliant and permeated through the airwaves during our visit. Maybe it’s our Michigander kinship…I was extra in tune with her vibe! She is something special. Silhouettes, we all love the bounty of a great feast, decorations and social media posting swoon worthy eye candy vignettes and decorations at an event but what about the hostess/host or team that brings it all together for our enjoyment?
How about the basic, everyday family meal? Have you ever been proud of yourself for being able to offer your family something a step above cereal for dinner? Oh yes, I think whomever backed and made “breakfast for dinner” cool has my vote for President. There have been plenty of times when I serve up scrambled egg sandwiches for dinner when it’s only two of us and not the full family…why not?
What’s for dinner…noooo!
There are days, even weeks when that daily question can send me sideways! Yes, I know all of the ways to avoid falling into that mindset and situation: plan, prepare, precook on Sunday for an entire week, use the crockpot, schedule in my calendar every week a Taco Tuesdays, stock the freezer with frozen meals, pre-packaged meals, meal prep service, personal Chef, McDonalds drive thru…yup, I know. There is a point to make here…behind every well planned, flawlessly designed and architected day, meal, event, celebration and ___{fill in the blank}, that there can be an entire shit show taking place but yet when it’s all said and done, all are seated to relish in the wonders of what they will never know the great and labor intensive lengths it took to get to this magical place, these moments in time, memories capsulated within gold fairy dust-like sprinkles to be ingrained in the subconscious for years to come…just what it took to make it a reality. The kicker, you ask? None of that matters in the end-say what? True (mostly!), what matters to your hostess/host-the sheer and ultimate joy is to step back (probably in the folds of the festive atmosphere) and relish with a full heart filled to the rim with gratitude that their efforts were successful and in service to the guests, family and friends. Yes, it’s that simple.
When Irene spoke about appreciating the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to present a family holiday feast yet, your Grandmother or Mother never complain, they do it, we do it because we want to serve the family and guests. Her words made a significant impression on me. It allowed me to get lost in the moment and reflect in full appreciation of my upbringing which allowed me the good fortune to observe, learn, participate and carry on traditions, etiquette, styles, recipes, skills, savvy, talents, ability and know-how of what I learned from my Grandmothers, Mother, Aunts and so many women role models on how to serve, what it takes behind the scenes and how it can transform, transport or delight if only for a moment in time. So, whether its breakfast for dinner or a five course holiday feast, the memories are made because we are in service to those we invite, appreciate and love.
