CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS
Change Agent: Kimberly shares how she discovered her passion and path that has led her throughout her Silhouette of Success journey. She was able to identify what was needed to help and support her community through doing the hands-on hard work, one on one interactions, building relationships and realizing that a support system was lacking for so many. She has been with Interfaith Family Services for 10 years and has been a serious change agent of which under her leadership has grown into the foundation to what it is today, a one stop shop for working poor families entire block at the corner of Hope & Greenville in Dallas, Texas. The 11-million-dollar capital campaign she, along with her team managed became a vision realized this for the betterment of the community. Kimberly reflects on a key situation that aided in her growth; during a Board Meeting she took a stand for herself, she was unyielding and grounded in her truth, and wow…take a listen! She says she was done jumping through hoops, having to proving she was capable, or that she had talent and walked in integrity. She shared a fantastic point of “Her body of work won’t speak for itself, until she speaks up for it”, life changing moments!
Preparation: Consulting has been a mission, passion and the business for Kimberly for many years. Her expertise has been building over her Silhouette of Success journey. She has been called upon by other nonprofits to assist and participate consulting to help develop leaders, especially women and leaders of color. She shares with us the wisdom and importance of knowing the art of our and God’s timing when we feel that there is a dream or vision we are chasing. Kimberly elaborates and shares a favorite biblical quote then breaks it down for us. She talks about how some may get frustrated and give up on a dream or goal but perhaps it just isn’t the right time, one may need more experience or education to be prepared to go after and achieve the dream or vision (listen to that part, then replay it once more!). She talks about how sometimes our dreams and goals may lay dormant, in a cocoon until they can hatch…whoa. It’s okay to lay it down, but you don’t have to give it up. When asking her about the timing of penning her recently published book, Diary of an Insecure CEO, she again points out the goal setting of weekly blogging with a start and end time that helped establish and finding her voice, writing rhythm, consistency and disciple…as she said, “being faithful for faithful sake”. Her discipline helped prepare her to write the book.
Leadership: Kimberly was named as an Executive Direct at age 27 years old…and so it begins! Kimberly’s experience, her stories of passionate resolve to accomplishments and even what she does when she gets stuck. When talking about her ideal client for Kim William Consulting, LLC she describes, in part someone who might feel as if they have bitten off more than expected or unsure of what to do next. She also points out that it’s okay to be courageous and to do what other people haven’t done before! Her strategic approach includes someone who wants to achieve measurable success for a long-term impact. She says nonprofits should be akin to social enterprises producing a tangible investment for donors. Kimberly talks about what she calls “angelic interactions” throughout her Silhouettes of Success journey, those one-on-one encounters that help, lead us or set the stage for things to come. These one little moments that we may discount-God is setting things up! Being faithful, available and open!
