CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS
Creator: Without a business or fashion background, she talks about taking a chance and putting herself out there pushing away the fear to launch. She was willing to take the chance in order to bring her specific vision to reality. As a new entrepreneur she encountered both traditional and very unique challenges as it pertains to her Kimberly Handbags. First of all they are designed locally in Texas but then she needed to locate, communicate and trust in a broker to help connect and oversee the process…oh, yes and during the pandemic of 2020! As a business owner or in general, she has great advice when it comes to hiring good people, don’t cut corners {in business}. Make sure that you are finding and paying for the best you can afford and best fit as they are the ones helping to present your product, brand and image to the marketplace.
Time: Take greater care of your commitments! This is something she reflects on as women we want to be involved, help, attend every function but we can become burn out or over commit which can lead to being perceived as a little flaky or unreliable. Kimberly reminds us how valuable time is, it is finite. What and who you spend that time with is so important. She talks about a day in the life of, and savoring the morning coffees with her husband, David or reviewing their plans for the day-very special! When it comes to a deliberation or decision she reflects back to something her mother used to tell her to ask herself “what’s the worst thing that can happen?”….work through the scenario. Make your decision and move forward. Oh, by the way her mother was Entrepreneur of the Year State of Texas in 1986!
Clarity: Living with intention and a sharper focus. Kimberly talks about the life lessons, experiences then a form of renewal for herself following the illness and loss of her husband {first}. She found herself at a pivotal point of needing to move forward in a way that felt good to her-she made a decision. She shares that people who are interested in things, tend to be interesting people themselves because they have a lot to offer. She counts herself fortunate to be around people that you can be real with and feel supported. When we visit about one of her favorite books, an interesting topic the author breaks down, which he calls “shadow careers”. It’s the concept that within us is a passion, natural talent we are avoiding or putting off pursuing out of fear (or practical reasons). Again, going back to relishing our time and that tomorrow isn’t promised. Profound conversation and wise words from Kimberly!
