CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS
Connections: She is a shining success and brilliant example for so many as she has been able to connect the dots for us along her Silhouette of Success journey. Erin’s passion is crystal clear with one of the first examples shared as a product of a single parent family her Mother moved her and sisters at a young age recognizing that the current opportunities for education were lacking. Erin is forever grateful that her Mother her made that difficult, brave decision. Erin speaks to us about the importance of education, environment and influences that helped inspire her in the early shaping of her Silhouette of Success. It’s touching to hear Erin share the connection from her upbringing by a single mom with support from her Grandmothers and family to her current advocacy roles with GenHERation and the Jerimiah Program. They are so interconnected. Erin reflects on the legacy displayed throughout her youth, to include her Grandmother of 100 years old that worked until she was 89 years of age and points out how the path was in a sense cleared for her by their examples. She naturally emulates their example giving back a hundred-fold and credits the early years with who she is and why she does what she does! Another direct indication that Erin is connecting the dots, she shares with us that her college education wasn’t in business but has learned an incredible amount of business savvy thanks to CNBC. She was able to connect with the founder of GenHERation. Once again, being observant, reaching out and making connections!
Mindful: Erin shares with us the journey of her formidable career days filled with life lessons, adventures, impactful experiences and some great advice. She talks about having “the hutzpah” to make it all happen and, in a time, where being the bread winner wasn’t as familiar as it may be today. She shares a bonus pointer for us with insights into her marriage and their partnership of mutual support for each other in their goals. Something she is known to share with other young women when they ask her “how do you have it all?” …she will tell them that in her experience, you cannot really have it all, not at the same time anyways! Tough choices will be made so be mindful of who you marry to support each other with the give-n-take. Whoa!
Thick Skin: As Erin talks to us about her experiences, wanting to please everybody in a sense and she has fantastic points around learning to form a “thick skin” that are invaluable! She talks about adversity-without having gone through certain events, we might not form the compassion needed to relate to others in a similar circumstance. She speaks to making mistakes, struggled in roles, gained the ability to recognize the willingness to take risks means you will make mistakes, making career moves that turned out not to be a great fit yet remained in the commitment and grew from the experiences. Who is this “Phantom Professional” firing on all cylinders at all times making not mistakes and having it all? Great humor! A tough lesson she shared in a work experience was rough, she stuck with her commitment and what it taught her a little humility, perspective and gratefulness. Powerful. Her encouraging words to all…it’s going to be fine! Be gracious and grateful and you will get to the other side. Erin shares that as humans we want to do meaningful work, love our families, have some success and serve. She shares a story of growth when working in Germany that it helped, her to discover the ability to ability to take risks, overall confidence, overcome obstacles then gained an apperception for all. Confidence and Risk Taking-key points to take away!
