THE AMBER WEITZER PODCAST SILHOUETTES OF SUCCESS | CRYS KELLY | EPISODE 4 | SHOW NOTES
FEATURED GUEST
In this episode we connect with Crys Kelly, a woman.
Crys grew up all over Texas, moving every few years with her family to follow her father’s career path in business. She grew up with dreams of being on Broadway to feed her love of singing, a teacher to feed her love of serving others, and a businesswoman to feed her love of enacting change for the better. While Broadway has yet to cast her in the starring role, she has carved out a life that feeds her passions and has found happiness despite life’s challenges.
She worked her way through college and earned a degree in Business Management (after earning most of a degree in music education) and began her working life in the retail industry. Just beginning her career, Crys was hit with the news that her daughter, Alexa, had been diagnosed with cancer at just 20 months old.
She had to make the tough decision to put her job on hold to carry her daughter through a two and a half year cancer journey that sadly ended in Alexa’s passing.
After the death of her daughter, her world view was permanently changed. She didn’t want to go back to the life she’d had before. It no longer felt right. Instead, she chose to pursue her love of teaching and earned her teaching certificate to teach elementary students in a Title I and run an after school musical theatre club. During that time, she also founded and directed The Princess Alexa Foundation in honor of her daughter and served as a Chapter Leader for The Compassionate Friends – a national organization for bereaved parents and siblings.
After five years of teaching, Crys left education to get back into business. She worked her way through various leadership roles and is currently a strategic manager for a large food manufacturer. Crys has served on the boards of local Womens’ organizations in business and continues to serve in her community, volunteering for animal shelters with her son and supporting a local organization that serves women recovering from abuse.
In every role she has held, Crys has mentored others to help them develop into their best selves. She is a natural trainer and strives to consistently support others in their success stories. She believes that women are essential to the working world.
She is a wife, a mother, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a professional and a leader.
