SILHOUETTE OF SUCCESS | SORORITY SESSION
In this Sorority Session:
Twelve-Year-Old CEO moves to Texas
Let’s review the Conversation Highlights:
ASSEMBLER | WORK IT | GLAMOROUS
Goodness…as always, our Silhouette revealed some smokin’ hot insights, motivational messages and serious inspiration! In Ann’s Episode 38 she talked on something that has been on my mind and resonated with me in a big way, so cue the dance music…
Ann was asked by her friend, Erin about what she liked to do as her twelve-year-old self, we have touched on this before, Dr. Claudia asked me, as her first guest on her podcast called “What’s Your Shine” that I boldly revisited for myself in Episode 32. So, do you see a trend here? In fact, this was yet another endorsement of seriously finding a way to rejuvenate (if need be) what you truly have a passion for doing with your life/career/hobby, etc. Find a cozy, quiet space and reflect, it might take some time to really dig deep into the recesses of your thoughts but it’s a priceless exercise, grab a notebook and pen or your notes app and just jot down everything that comes back to you, think back on what you did, enjoyed, creative play, played with, or with who and why did you enjoy it? Ann loved making Barbie houses, guess what Ann is doing today…making people happy by creating beauty in their homes! Barbie Houses! She also talked about the style influences from the women in her life early on, also something I was able to relate…let’s connect some polka dots.
I’m learning many lessons from our remarkable Silhouettes of Success, they are inspiring, teaching, encouraging and opening my mind and heart to reach new heights.
This brings me back to this Sorority Session; Twelve-Year-Old CEO Barbie CEO who moves to Texas! I was smiling ear to ear when Ann mentioned she loved making Barbie houses. I was and still am a major Barbie fan. In fact, one of my all-time favorites was CEO Barbie circa 1985 with her pink business suit, white hat with pink and white polka dot band with briefcase. I had to go digging in my attic to see if I still have her…I do (she’s a little rough for the wear, but it’s been a long journey for she and I)! So, this seals the academic theory for me that has been a trend among recent podcast interviews-I’m convinced and have honestly been able to embrace and take a reflective, sincere journey back just to reexamine early passions of my youth and how they still hold true to today. It’s remarkable. I’m discovering how to applicable those youthful past interests are to my present-day success and future promise of doing what you love! Thank you, Ann, Erin and Claudia!
Another resounding example on the reflection journey and connecting polka dots, similar to Ann my Grandmothers, Mother, Aunts and Great Aunts were all pillars in my youth and to this day, treasured mentors. Ah, but this story goes a little deeper it reminded me that Grandma Dorothy was iconic in my eyes with her classic style. A Fashionista in every sense that helped introduce me to style, design and fashion and permanent impression. She was a mother, teacher and ran a tight ship/house it always looked like a magazine. My Grandma Adella, who will be 106 years old this August, a true Homemaker, amazing cook and baker, hustling about from sun up to sun down with holidays to remember. There is no greater example than hers. From McCall’s magazine and cutting out paper dolls to wrapping every Christmas cookie in a separate baggie for care packages. She’s the real deal! Christmas, 1980 she and Grandpa gave me Dallas-Western Barbie’s horse (Grandpa later built me a custom dollhouse style barn for Dallas and Midnight 1982). Great Aunt Mary, or wild and crazy Aunt Mary; a traveler, golfer and longtime factory worker who’s house I loved to escape to and stay weekends or summers with her sleeping in her attic. So cool. The same year as Dallas, she gifted me Western Barbie! Western cowgirl Barbie and horse named Dallas…did they know something I didn’t?!?
And as the foreshadowing plot grows, polka dots connecting… my Mom and Aunt Chris would travel to Dallas for a Home Interiors convention. Both were Home Interiors and Mary Kay reps and decorators, entrepreneurs of these home-based businesses. (I have a very funny Mary Kay+High School yearbook story but that’s for another day. It could be a The Joke Is On Me! comic). The HQ for Mary Kay…Dallas, Texas! Fast forward in the mid to late 80’s our family loaded up the U-Haul and relocated to…Texas! Today I am the CEO of my own business. Whoa.
So, you see the imprints and influences are deep and have such great meaning along with some fun ironies and foreshadowing that were really fun to explore. While I’m not the expert of this type of deep academia stuff, find a workshop or someone who is-it could unlock your passions to pursue for both the love of it and profitability!
