CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS
Common Sense | Public Service | Direct
Common Sense: Show the way by example in life or the boardroom. Find balance in the options with common sense to make decisions and be a student of people, great advice from her sister. Set the tone early on and be direct…she’s not good at tap dancing around the subject! Be very hard nose with your private time, boundaries for exercise, date nights and family time. You really need to dedicate time every day and develop the skill…it is a skill. A special focus is community and public health and is a primary passion of hers for both the mental and physical aspects. Feed the mind and exercise the body. I dare you to keep up with her on a bicycle!
Public Service: From her parents example, she has continued to share her talents, gifts and service being raise to give back. It was expected to do what you could, no limitations (being male or female). This was abundantly clear as she has continued to thrive as the Mayor of Fort Worth, Texas which is the 13th largest city in the Nation, and one of only three female Mayor’s in the Top 20 cities of the United States…and even more impressive, for many years, she was the ONLY female Mayor in the Top 2o largest cities in the United States of America. BAM! (the excitement overtook me!)
She shares that for most of us, we shouldn’t be dedicated to one single path, you should be open to change…change is good and beneficial in most cases. Surround yourself with diversified types of people. Be versatile and flexible. Something she loves to do is read to the children, they embrace life with open eyes and hearts that give all of us pure joy and energy!
Direct: Speak your truth, don’t tap dance around the topic or subject-let your opinion be known. Let it help anchor you, what’s your position on the topic and focus on the business or reason you are meeting. Men and women lead differently and lead horizontally with better multitasking abilities and it will all mesh together if you let it flow. Women leaders seem to be good at quickly analyzing the situations. Know your audience, know the players and the goal to facilitate a successful resolution or outcome.
